This minimalist work in Korean Buncheong Ware has a beautifully balanced silhouette and generously rounded form.

The smooth off-white slip thickly coats this small Moon Jar. It results in a mostly opaque layer on the vessel, topped with a clear glaze that has a slight gloss. 

The slip thins out at the lip, giving a glimpse of the darker clay beneath.  The dark clay is also exposed on the underside of the foot.

Buncheong Ware, with its distinctive texture, is uniquely Korean in origin.  A top layer of light-coloured clay (the 'slip') veils the darker clay below.  Drips and brush strokes made at the moment the slip is applied remain in the final work;  this is the unique charm of the art form.
