White Small Moon Jar

There is a balance and fullness to this White Porcelain Moon Jar.  The glaze has a definite but very pale blue-green tint, with visible crackling and a glassy reflective surface.

The artist's skilful shaping on the wheel shows in the final work. There are subtle variations in the texture and colour of this piece that embody the 'perfect imperfection' of the Moon Jar art form.

Korean White Porcelain, or Baekja, was the choice of royalty from the early Joseon era (1392-1897) for its high quality and simple elegance embodying the Confucian values of purity and modesty.  It is still crafted today using the same centuries-old techniques.
